Who We Support

Trusted By First Responders, Families, and our Community

Advocating for the mental health of our first responders and the communities they protect.

We proudly serve first responders and their families across Oakville, Hamilton, Halton, and the Greater Toronto Area. Whether you’re a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, or part of the support network behind them, our trauma-informed clinicians offer a safe and confidential space for healing and growth. We also extend care to our community throughout the region, offering evidence-based therapy grounded in trust, collaboration, and compassion.

COUPLES

Strengthening Relationships Under Pressure

Relationships can face unique challenges when one or both partners serve as first responders. At Peace of Mind CBT, we help couples navigate the stress of shift work, exposure to trauma, and emotional disconnection that can arise from demanding careers.

Our support extends to all couples. Whether you’re a first responder partnered with someone outside the profession, two first responders navigating the demands of the job together, or part of the LGBTQ+ community in a same-sex or gender-diverse relationship. Therapy offers a safe, inclusive, and supportive space to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen your relationship under pressure.

Together, we honor the diverse relationships within our community fostering connection, understanding, and resilience both at home and in service.

FAMILIES

Support for the Whole Family

Behind every first responder is a family adapting to the rhythms, risks, and realities of the job. At Peace of Mind CBT, we understand how unpredictable schedules, emotional fatigue, and critical incidents can affect home life. Our therapy for families helps you navigate communication challenges, manage stress, and maintain connection and stability through it all. Whether you’re supporting a loved one returning from a difficult shift or balancing family life around an ever-changing schedule, we provide a safe, understanding space to strengthen relationships, foster empathy, and build resilience together.

At Peace of Mind CBT, we stand with the families behind the uniform — helping spouses and partners of first responders understand trauma, recognize early signs of distress, and learn how to support their loved one’s healing journey.

PEER SUPPORT

Responder-to-Responder Care

Strong teams are built on trust and no one understands a first responder like another first responder. Our peer-support development and assessment programs are designed to help services create, train, and sustain effective responder-to-responder care systems rooted in competence, compassion, and connection.

At Peace of Mind CBT, we help organizations identify the right individuals for peer roles through structured vetting and readiness assessments. With clinical guidance and ongoing mentorship, we ensure peer supporters have the tools and emotional resilience to provide safe, informed, and ethical support to their colleagues.

Peer support goes beyond conversation; it’s a culture of care that strengthens psychological safety, reduces stigma, and fosters resilience across entire departments. Through our trauma-informed approach, we help first responder organizations develop lasting programs, ensuring that those who serve never have to struggle alone.
